On January 9th, 2025, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Due Process and Head, Abia State Due Process and Public Procurement Bureau, attended the official commissioning and handover of the Umunneochi 2024 Constituency Project at Nneato Secondary School, Umunneochi LGA which marked the completion of a five-classroom block designed to enhance the educational infrastructure in the region.

The project, championed by Hon. Mathias Ume Nwachi, the Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency and Deputy Majority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, reflects the administration’s dedication to revitalizing education infrastructure in Abia State.

The event was attended by key government officials, including the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu FNSE, who represented the Executive Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR. In his speech, the Governor commended Hon. Mathias for his commitment to education and warned against the encroachment of school properties, stating that such actions would no longer be tolerated under his administration.

Governor Otti emphasized the importance of securing educational facilities, addressing school-aged children’s attendance, and implementing safety measures like prohibiting bush burning to protect school properties. He further reiterated his administration’s dedication to tackling insecurity in Umunneochi, especially concerning issues of banditry and kidnappings, and highlighted the progress being made in these areas.

Hon. Mathias Ume Nwachi, in his remarks, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued support and for approving the timely funding of the project. He acknowledged the alignment of this project with his campaign promises and the administration’s values of prudence, transparency, and accountability.

The Principal of Nneato Secondary School, Mr. Ihionu J. I., also expressed his appreciation to the Governor for prioritizing education, citing recent advancements such as the regular payment of teachers’ salaries and the introduction of free and compulsory education.
