Oluebube Chukwu Champions Ethical Leadership At Rotary Club Fellowship In Umuahia

At a special fellowship of the Rotary Club of Umuahia, District 9142 Nigeria, held on Thursday April 10, 2025, renowned public affairs analyst and development advocate, Dr. Oluebube Amarauche Chukwu, delivered an insightful paper on the theme *“Integrity in the Workplace.”* Addressing an audience of professionals and civic leaders, he emphasized the urgent need to embed ethical values within the operational fabric of both public institutions and private organizations.

Dr. Chukwu stated that integrity is not a fixed state, but rather an evolving process that demands consistent effort and reflection. He noted that integrity should not be viewed as a personal trait alone but must be institutionalized across corporate bodies, public service, and civil society organizations. According to him, when integrity becomes an organizational culture, it enhances trust, loyalty, and long-term success.

He explained that upholding integrity requires deliberate and practical alignment with fundamental moral principles, such as honesty, fairness, transparency, and accountability. Dr. Chukwu warned against the temptation to cut corners, emphasizing the importance of making ethical decisions, even when they are inconvenient. He maintained that integrity involves cultivating a workplace culture that values truth, discourages manipulation, and promotes meritocracy.

Dr. Chukwu further argued that creating a work environment anchored on integrity is not merely aspirational but essential for the sustainability of any organization. He pointed out that when integrity becomes the foundation of operations, it naturally leads to increased efficiency, employee morale, and stakeholder confidence. He stressed that without integrity, any apparent success is short-lived and ultimately destructive.

Referencing developments in Abia State, Dr. Chukwu commended the administration of Governor Alex Otti for entrenching a governance system built on integrity and transparency. He observed that under Governor Otti’s leadership, public service delivery has been revitalized, and a culture of accountability has taken root. Dr. Chukwu remarked that such reforms are evidence of what is possible when leadership is guided by a firm moral compass.

Speaking further, he emphasized that integrity flourishes in environments grounded in truth, equity, and a shared commitment to ethical conduct. He encouraged leaders at all levels to prioritize integrity as a core value, stressing that it fosters public trust and institutional credibility. According to him, an ethical workplace promotes unity, reduces conflict, and strengthens the social contract between leaders and the people they serve.

He advised that integrity must begin from the top, with leaders serving as examples through their actions and decisions. Dr. Chukwu warned that when leadership lacks integrity, it becomes impossible to inspire genuine change at the grassroots. He also noted that reputation should not be treated as a short-term concern, but as a long-term asset built over time through consistent ethical conduct. Integrity, he said, is a lifelong journey and a daily choice that requires self-discipline, reflection, and accountability.

The highlight of the evening was the formal induction of Dr. Oluebube Amarauche Chukwu as a member of the Rotary Club of Umuahia. The induction ceremony was conducted by the President of the Rotary Club, Rotarian Temitope Nnaoma, who praised Dr. Chukwu’s unwavering commitment to service, leadership, and the promotion of values that are inline with the core mission of Rotary International.
