The Abia State Government has intensified efforts to improve electricity supply across communities in Abia State with commencement on Tuesday July 28 2026, of distribution of transformers as part of Governor Alex Otti's commitment to expanding access to reliable power across the state.
A transformer facilitated by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process, High Chief Oluebube A. Chukwu, was among those presented to beneficiary communities in Umuahia, where residents described the intervention as a timely solution to years of power challenges caused by overloaded electricity infrastructure.

Speaking on the initiative, High Chief Chukwu expressed appreciation to Governor Alex Otti for prioritising the state's electricity sector, noting that the administration has continued to make significant investments aimed at improving power supply for Abians.
According to him, a major milestone has been achieved through the ring-fencing of nine local government areas that now enjoy 24-hour electricity in the State with ongoing efforts by the Abia State Government to cover the entire state with constant electricity supply, following the Federal Government's electricity sector reforms, which allow states to participate in power generation and distribution.
He explained that while the state government continues to strengthen electricity generation and distribution, the provision of transformers is designed to ensure last-mile delivery of power to homes, businesses and communities with improved electricity infrastructure.
"The transformers are meant to ensure that electricity gets to the end users efficiently. This is part of Governor Alex Otti's broader vision of providing reliable power to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life of our people," he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Chikeze Obi of Umumeze, Amuda Isuochi, said the community already had electricity but had been experiencing frequent outages because the existing transformer was overloaded.
He explained that the additional transformer would help separate the load, reduce constant tripping and provide more stable electricity to residents.
Also speaking, Dr. Fidelis Uchenna Onwuzurike of Obuohia, Umumeze Amuda, commended Hon. Oluebube Chukwu for his efforts in attracting the electricity transformer to their community.
He noted that Amuda Town in Isuochi had relied on a transformer with a capacity of less than 500KVA, serving about eight communities, a situation that had negatively affected power supply for years.
According to him, the new transformer will ease pressure on the existing facility, improve electricity distribution and support social and economic development within the affected communities.
In his remarks, Reverend Uche Ejike of Umumeze, Amuda Isuochi, praised both Governor Alex Otti and Hon. Oluebube Chukwu for what he described as responsive and people-oriented leadership.
He said the growing population of the community had placed enormous pressure on the existing transformer, resulting in persistent load shedding and poor electricity supply.
The cleric particularly commended Hon. Oluebube Chukwu for facilitating the project without waiting for a formal request from the community, describing him as a patriotic son who remains committed to the welfare and development of his people.
The beneficiaries unanimously expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for approving the transformers and to Hon. Oluebube Chukwu for facilitating the allocation, saying the intervention would improve electricity supply, boost commercial activities and enhance the living conditions of residents across the affected communities.
