Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Abia State on Due Process, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, has urged stakeholders in Umunneochi Local Government Area to adopt strategic measures to boost voter registration during the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

Dr. Chukwu made the call during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the Umunneochi LGA Council headquarters in Nkwoagu, Isuochi on Friday, 30th January, 2026. The meeting brought together government functionaries, key community leaders, traditional rulers, religious heads, and representatives of town unions to deliberate on practical steps to ensure that eligible residents take advantage of the registration window to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking at the event, Dr. Chukwu emphasized the importance of voter registration as a fundamental civic responsibility and a cornerstone of credible electoral participation which would contribute in massively returning Governor Alex Otti at the 2027 polls.

He urged all stakeholders to actively engage their communities in creating awareness and mobilizing residents to register.
Following deliberations, the stakeholders unanimously adopted a comprehensive sensitization plan targeting key community segments. The plan involves sending formal letters to religious leaders, traditional rulers, and town unions to secure their cooperation and active involvement. Additionally, town criers will be deployed across various communities to reach grassroots residents, including those in hard-to-reach areas.

The stakeholders expressed optimism that the coordinated approach, combined with stakeholders mobilization efforts, would significantly increase voter registration figures in Umunneochi LGA and strengthen civic participation ahead of the 2027 elections.

A key highlight of the meeting was the mobilization of funds led by Dr. Chukwu to facilitate the transportation of residents from hinterland communities to Local Government Headquarters where INEC registration agents are stationed. This initiative is aimed at enhancing voter enrollment and ensuring that eligible voters from remote areas can access registration points efficiently.

The meeting also highlighted the community’s collective commitment to ensuring that every eligible voter is duly registered and empowered to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
