On April 6th, 2025, stakeholders and political leaders from across Umunneochi Local Government Area, Zone 3, gathered at the residence of Comrade Obiorah Nduka in Eziama Nneato for a crucial meeting focused on fostering grassroots engagement, cohesion, and strengthening support for Governor Alex Otti’s administration.
The event, which was filled with enthusiastic participation, was addressed by Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process. In his speech, Dr. Chukwu emphasized the need for sustained unity and peace in Umunneochi while reflecting the strategic significance of Umunneochi. “Since 1999, no other government has been so good to Umunneochi than this government,” he enthused.
Dr. Chukwu further reiterated the importance of supporting the people-focused initiatives of Governor Otti. “Unity is the only way we can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy. We must continue supporting the good works of Governor Alex Otti,” he stated, emphasizing that collective support would ensure continued progress and development.
The meeting also saw significant contributions from Hon. Chaka Ikenna Chukwumerije, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, who addressed issues related to the cattle market and emphasized the importance of inclusive governance. “Government is about representation. When we are united, we can carry everyone along,” he stated. He also expressed gratitude for the governor’s appointments, highlighting the recognition and political inclusion extended to Umunneochi.
Hon. Grace Ibe, Commissioner with the Abia State House of Assembly Service Commission shared her thoughts, stressing the importance of consistent engagement between leaders and the people. She noted that Governor Otti’s administration has opened doors for more inclusive dialogue and representation, encouraging regular meetings to ensure ongoing collaboration and progress.
In a remarkable show of unity and dedication to Governor Otti’s vision, Mayor Sunny Afurobi, in the company of other elected and appointed sons and daughters of Umunneochi, canvassed for grassroots support for the governor who has also brought security back to Umunneochi.
The event was a colorful and powerful occasion where several prominent figures from Nneato Zone 3, in appreciation of Governor Otti’s good governance, formally defected from their respective political parties and declared support for the Labour Party. They were warmly received by Mayor Sunny Afurobi, who expressed his gratitude for their decision to join the Labour Party and contribute to the continued success of Governor Otti’s administration.
At the meeting, the Executive Mayor of Umunneochi was joined by Hon. Mathias Umeh, Member representing Umunneochi in the Abia House of Assembly, Ogbuehi Chaka Chukwumerije, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Due Process, Lady Grace Ibe, Commissioner in the Abia State House of Assembly Commission; Mr. Dodo Okafor, SSA to the Governor on Public Communication; Surveyor Ike Orika, GODA Council Member and Dr. Nzeako O. Nzeako, among many other key Labour Party stakeholders from Umunneochi.
Other notable attendees included Lady Salome, Women Leader of Abia Arise (Umunneochi Chapter); Hon. Augustine, former Deputy Mayor; Pst. Kingsley Mezie, former TC Chairman; Hon. Uche Joel, Councilor of Lokpaukwu Ward and Comrade Uchenna Pleasant Eze, LP Youth Leader, among others.
Speakers at the event agreed that regular engagements of this nature would enhance collaboration and ensure that no segment of the community is left behind. The meeting highlighted not only loyalty to Governor Otti but also a shared vision for more inclusive, effective, and peaceful local governance.
