Governor Alex Otti has reaffirmed his dedication to infrastructure and economic transformation with the construction of the 11.27-kilometre Mbala-Umuaku-Ngodo Road in Umunneochi Local Government Area. The project, designed to enhance connectivity and boost economic activities, reflects his administration’s commitment to sustainable development in Abia State.
Among those who showered praise on the governor was Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, who took special time to commend Otti’s visionary leadership. Chukwu highlighted the strategic importance of the road project, noting that it would not only improve mobility but also unlock economic opportunities for local businesses, farmers and residents. “Governor Otti is building bridges, both literally and figuratively. His dedication to transforming Umunneochi is a testimony to his resolve to uplift every part of Abia State,” he said.
Speaking at the project’s flag-off ceremony at Ngodo-Umuada Junction, Otti recognized Umunneochi’s historical and economic significance. As the home of the Imo River’s source and a key transit hub in Nigeria, the region plays a crucial role in inter-state commerce. Drawing inspiration from Nelson Mandela’s famous words, “It always seems impossible until it’s done,” Otti emphasized that progress comes from collective effort and determination.
The governor also applauded the resilience of Umunneochi’s people, particularly in their commitment to education, philanthropy, and security. He acknowledged their role in tackling criminal activities in the region, describing their collaboration with security agencies as a model for community-driven safety. “True progress is achieved when leaders and citizens work together with a common goal,” he stated.
Beyond road infrastructure, Otti announced plans for sweeping reforms in healthcare and education under Project Ekwueme and the AbiaFirst Education Transformation Programme. Additionally, he unveiled a proposal for a multi-billion naira agro-industrial processing facility in Umunneochi, a move that aligns with his broader economic agenda of boosting local production and value addition. “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower,” he remarked, quoting Steve Jobs.
The governor also addressed the need to harness Umunneochi’s untapped economic resources, including the Lokpa livestock market and the area’s solid mineral deposits. He stressed that rather than mere extraction, value addition must be prioritized to ensure long-term benefits for the local economy.
Calling on residents to take ownership of government projects, Otti urged them to safeguard and supervise infrastructure developments. Echoing John F. Kennedy’s words, “Ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your country,” he encouraged community participation in governance and development initiatives.
Governor Otti concluded with a strong message on civic responsibility, emphasizing that taxation remains key to sustaining development. He reassured the people that every tax naira would be accounted for, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln, Dr. Oluebube said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” Through bold leadership and collective effort, Otti is shaping a prosperous future for Umunneochi and Abia State.
