The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), on Friday, 23rd May, 2025, held a dignified send-off ceremony in honour of its retiring academic and non-academic staff from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The valedictory programme, which spanned May 22nd to 25th, marked a significant chapter in the university’s history as it celebrated the distinguished service of several esteemed members of the faculty, including Professor Amarauche Chukwu, father of Dr. Oluebube Amarauche Chukwu.

The ceremony commenced with an opening prayer delivered by the co-chairman of the occasion, Professor Sabinus Ofoefule. In his welcoming remarks, he acknowledged the presence of numerous dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Occasion, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Oguejiofor T. Ujam, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Kamoru Olayiwola Usman.

Playing a significant role at the event was the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UNN, Professor Sylvester Nworu, along with various Heads of Departments, Deans from other faculties, members of staff, and a vibrant delegation of students.

In his keynote address, Professor Sylvester Nworu captured the spirit of the gathering with a moving speech titled “A Legacy of Service, Scholarship, and Selflessness.” He paid glowing tribute to the commitment, resilience, and academic contributions of the retiring staff, underscoring their pivotal role in shaping the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UNN, into a centre of excellence.

One of the highlights of the event was the reading of a poignant citation on Professor Amarauche Chukwu, delivered by Professor Kenneth Ofokansi. The citation outlined Prof. Chukwu’s distinguished academic journey, his mentorship legacy, and his unwavering dedication to pharmaceutical research and education. His career was described as one marked by distinction, integrity, and a profound sense of duty which saw him producing several holders of Doctor of Philosophy degree in Pharmacy many of whom are now professors of Pharmaceutical Technology and Clinical Pharmacy.
Dr. Oluebube Chukwu, in his remarks, expressed immense pride in his father’s achievements and profound gratitude for the university’s recognition. He described Professor Amarauche Chukwu’s life as one of impact, selflessness, and scholarly devotion, adding that his father's retirement marked a well-earned moment of rest and reflection after years of tireless service.
He also extended his best wishes to the other retirees, acknowledging their collective contributions to academic excellence and institutional growth. Dr Oluebube highlighted the enduring value of their legacy and encouraged them to embrace the next phase of their lives with fulfilment and peace.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of awards and commemorative gifts, symbolizing the university’s appreciation for the retirees’ unwavering service. The event was not merely a farewell it was a celebration of lives well lived, lessons well taught, and legacies that will continue to inspire.
