"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice..." (Proverbs 29:2). This biblical truth was once again evident as Governor Alex Otti, OFR, officially flagged off the construction of the Omenuko Bridge in Ozua Abam, Arochukwu Local Government Area. This historic project marks another significant step in his administration’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure across Abia State.

The newly flagged-off bridge, which spans 45 meters, with an additional 100 meters of approach roads on either side, will serve as a lifeline for communities that have endured decades of infrastructural neglect. For years, residents and travelers have struggled with poor road access, limiting economic activities and posing serious safety risks. With this project, Governor Otti has once again demonstrated his resolve to build a New Abia rooted in vision, purpose, and people-centered governance.

During the flag-off ceremony, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to providing modern infrastructure that enhances economic growth, improves connectivity, and prioritizes the welfare of the people. He emphasized that his government is not just about making promises but about taking bold actions that directly impact lives.

The Governor also took the opportunity to reflect on Omenuko, the novel written in 1933 by Peter Nwana, noting its significance to Igbo literature and history. He emphasized that, although the Omenuko Bridge is a federal project, his administration decided to intervene after discovering that the initial award claim by the previous administration was false. More importantly, he affirmed that it is the people of Abia who will directly benefit from this project. He assured the gathering that the bridge would be completed within nine months, with funds already made available for its execution.

The event witnessed the presence of key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious leaders, government officials, and community representatives. Their attendance reflected the widespread support for a government that listens to its people and delivers meaningful development.

More than just a road project, the Omenuko Bridge is a catalyst for economic expansion. Farmers, traders, and business owners who rely on this corridor will now enjoy better accessibility, reduced travel time, and increased commercial activities. The enhanced infrastructure will also significantly improve safety, replacing the previous makeshift crossings that posed risks to commuters.

Governor Otti’s leadership continues to receive widespread acclaim for its focus on infrastructure, accountability, and economic transformation. By embarking on strategic projects such as the Omenuko Bridge, he has solidified his reputation as a leader who prioritizes action over rhetoric.

For the people of Ozu Abam and the surrounding communities, the flag-off event was not just a ceremony it was a symbol of hope and a revival of their ancestral heritage. It signified a new era where development is no longer selective but inclusive, reaching every part of the state, regardless of past neglect.

The bridge’s significance extends beyond physical connectivity; it represents a link to new opportunities, better livelihoods, and a future defined by sustainable development. It aligns perfectly with Governor Otti’s broader vision of transforming Abia into a thriving economic hub with world-class infrastructure.

The Abia State Government expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who graced the occasion, acknowledging their unwavering support for the administration’s developmental agenda. The enthusiastic turnout reinforced the collective belief that Abia is on the right track under Governor Otti’s leadership.

As the construction progresses, the state remains committed to ensuring high-quality execution and timely completion. Governor Otti has assured the people that his administration will continue to prioritize infrastructure projects that directly improve lives and stimulate economic growth.

With each milestone, Governor Otti proves that good governance is about service, impact, and transformation. As Abians celebrate yet another step forward, the message remains clear: when the righteous rule, the people rejoice, and under Governor Alex Otti, Abia is truly rejoicing.
