Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has officially flagged off the reconstruction of two major road projects: the 12.6km Ohanze-Ntighauzo-Obete-Umuoha-Oberete-Akirika Obu Road and the dualization of the 5.5km Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road.

The flag-off ceremony for the 12.6km road was held at Orie Agalaba Junction in Obingwa Local Government Area, while the event for the dualization of the Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road took place at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church Primary School Compound, Umuikaa. Both projects are aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activities in the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Otti described the roads as strategic to Abia’s economic advancement, emphasizing that his administration is committed to expanding urban boundaries and enhancing infrastructure.

“This project, I have to admit, is very dear to my heart because it aligns perfectly with the development vision of the administration for the expansion of Aba as a major urban destination,” Otti said. “We are committed to expanding the urban boundaries of our beloved Enyimba city by extending quality infrastructure to the outskirts to increase the appeal to prosperity and investment, businesses, and residents. Quality roads are only the foundation.”

The Governor highlighted the significance of the Ohanze-Ntighauzo-Obete-Umuoha-Oberete-Akirika Obu Road, noting that it connects Obingwa and Ukwa East LGAs. He stated that the project would ease the movement of agricultural produce and facilitate trade, unlocking economic opportunities for residents.

Similarly, he started the importance of the Owerrinta-Umuikaa Road, stating that its dualization would improve road safety, enhance travel into Abia State, and stimulate socio-economic activities along the corridor. The Governor assured that the project aligns with his broader vision for infrastructural transformation.

Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s determination to deploy all available resources to achieve development priorities for the greater Aba urban corridor. He added that the government would collaborate with international organizations and development partners to turn the area into a hub for agriculture and food processing enterprises.

“Our proposal to raise the size of Abia’s economy over the next few years will find great traction through projects such as this,” he stated.

He reassured residents that his administration remains dedicated to bridging infrastructural gaps across the state and urged benefiting communities to support the projects by ensuring their smooth execution.

Governor Otti, the Builder of Abia roads also emphasized the importance of revenue generation for sustainable development. He encouraged citizens to fulfill their tax obligations, stating that such contributions would enable the government to fund critical projects.

According to the revivalist of Abia roads, his administration’s grand development vision will only be accomplished if we generate sufficient revenue. He used occasion to again encourage our people to promptly pay their individual and business taxes to fund more projects that will benefit our state.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, party members, and community groups. The events marked another milestone in Governor Otti’s infrastructural agenda, signaling his
resolve to build a more connected and economically vibrant Abia.
