Author: Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu
The foremost governance priority of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti's administration has been to dismantle the longstanding barriers stifling the productivity of our industrious people. Ndi Abia are a community of hardworking individuals driven by an unwavering determination to succeed. Whether in farming, retail, education, civil service, or other legitimate ventures, our people consistently demonstrate resilience, creativity, and excellence. Over the years, our collective strength has been tested through numerous social and economic upheavals. Yet, our faith in new beginnings remains unshaken. This resilience compelled us to step into the political arena, not for personal ambition, but to liberate our people from the chokehold of poor governance and stagnation. Governor Alex Otti’s administration has embraced the ethos of service, placing the needs of the people at the center of governance. Nowhere is this more evident than in his transformative efforts in road construction and infrastructure development. Decades of neglect left Abia’s roadways in a state of disrepair, limiting productivity, fostering insecurity, and diminishing the quality of life. Today, we are witnessing a paradigm shift as Governor Otti takes decisive steps to right these wrongs. In just 18 months, the Alex Otti-led government has embarked on numerous road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state. Among these is the Ntigha-Nbawsi-Umuala Road reconstruction project, a landmark initiative that underscores the administration’s commitment to development. This 11.45-kilometer road, slated for completion within 12 months, will revitalize the economies of communities along its corridor. The project is not merely about building a road but about unlocking economic opportunities in agriculture, trade, hospitality, and real estate. It is a testament to Governor Otti’s vision to remove the barriers hindering progress and foster sustainable growth. The Ntigha-Nbawsi-Umuala Road is part of a broader strategic plan that includes the proposed Abia Airport at Nsulu, the redevelopment of the Nsulu Games Village, and the remodeling of educational and health facilities. By leveraging Isialangwa’s strategic location between Aba and Umuahia, the administration aims to create interconnected urban hubs, reducing pressure on the major cities while fostering balanced development across the state. Under Governor Otti’s leadership, roads are becoming conduits of progress. For example, the Ntigha-Nbawsi-Umuala Road will shorten travel time, open up local markets, and attract urban shoppers seeking fresh, organic produce. It will also encourage agricultural expansion, creating jobs and increasing economic output. Additionally, Governor Otti’s administration is ensuring that all road projects prioritize local content. Contractors are mandated to source materials locally and employ community members for non-technical roles. This approach not only boosts the local economy but also fosters a sense of ownership among the people. Governor Otti has set high standards for project execution, emphasizing quality and adherence to timelines. Contractors are held to rigorous standards, ensuring that every road project meets the technical specifications approved by the Ministry of Works. Financial obligations to contractors are met promptly, and oversight is strict to prevent lapses. Beyond road construction, the administration’s vision encompasses holistic development. Each community is seen as a vital piece of a larger puzzle, contributing its unique strengths to Abia’s growth. This integrated approach seeks to bridge the gap between rural and urban areas, reducing rural-urban migration and fostering balanced development. As we celebrate the milestones achieved under Governor Otti’s leadership, I call on Ndi Abia to support these efforts. Pay your taxes, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to be law-abiding citizens. Together, we can build a state where every community thrives, where opportunities abound, and where our children inherit a legacy of excellence and progress. Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to road construction is not just about infrastructure it is about empowerment, equity, and the realization of our collective dreams. Under his leadership, Abia is not just moving forward; it is setting a new standard for governance in Nigeria. Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu PhD, writes from Umuahia.
